Jan 30, 2008 Bath Fitter complaint by Roncon |
A few years ago Bathfitter installed a tub. Things were going well, then in 2007 I noticed a bulge in the wall of the tub. Come to find out there was water between the original tub and the tub they installed. I contacted them and they made an appointment to change the tub. After the new tub was installed, maybe two months later I noticed the bottom of the tub would sink down when you stepped inside. It is like walking on a water bed. I don't want to use the tub now because I am afraid of falling. I am now questioning the quality of the product and the installation. I have contacted them so I will see how long it will take to get an appointment to replace the tub AGAIN. When I purchased the tub I had no idea I would be calling them for repeat service over and over. It is really frustrating. I should have just tiled the bathroom and got a regular tub. Signed /Regrets from Florida - Has anyone sued them yet?

Just to add to my last post, in case it isnt clear, we can shower without a leak, but we cannot take a bath, if we fill the tub to the spill hole, it ends up downstairs into the kitchen. It was not like that prior to Bathfitters being there.

I had Bathfitters install a unit over my old tub and install the wall around it. It was the biggest mistake I made when trying to fix up this house- and I am located in NJ.
At first, when they installed and we ran the shower, there was a leak straight down to the kitchen- you cant use the tub, because when you get close to the spill hole, the water again goes downstairs- they were here several times and none of their installers could repair the leak to the kitchen- the owner came and did nothing more than offer me a verbal "lifetime" guaranty??!! whose lifetime are we talking about? I had to take a hotel room so my boyfriend and I could shower- and I had to hire a real plumber to fix the leak when ever the water ran- they were able to fix the leak however for some reason we could never use the tub without water spillage downstairs. It was infuriating to find out from the plumber who presented me with the piece of cast iron tub that the bathfillers installer hammered out to fit their drain over the old tub- not to mention the acrylic is not easy to cleans as they claim it is. Its crap! Now 4 years later- I was washing the lowest of the shelves that I purchased from them to keep soap and shampoo on etc and it cracked! so much for the lifetime guaranty.
I never sued because I had just purchased this house and was overwhelmed and just resigned myself to the fact that I was just going to have to rip it all out and start over again but with licenced professionals and not people who do not care about peoples homes just getting their money. Warning to anyone out there, if I had it to do again, I would have my original tub reglazed, and the fiberglass wall replaced by a qualified contractor and caulked by them as well. Bathfitters was a nightmare and as far as Im concerned they are crooks.

Where in Florida are you from? Were they able to resolve your issues?

bathfitter uses fiberglass molds for their tub liners. This causes distortion in the mold which in turn leads to a slightly different tub shape than the original. I would recommend re-bath since the use the actual tub(which is steel or cast-iron(.

I haven't had any problems with my BathFitter. You mentioned the issue was with the tub - did they put up their wall for you too? I remember the sales guy telling me that if they did the tub without the wall the warranty would be different because my old wall had some cracked tiles and might cause water to go underneath - just thought i'd ask.
